Yes, you read that right. Gary mentioned in another post that we had a stubborn steel target at 130 yards. We had all hit it with .32 and .45 slugs and it would just not fall. Gary decided we needed a bigger slug and took aim with the Woodsman .62 smoothbore shooting a 550gr slug. Check this out:

That was an awesome shot! Jerry, what is the average accuracy of the Woodsman .62 at 50 or 100 yards?

Hi Peter,

As with anything else, it's completely dependent upon the shooter, and his technique. I worked long and hard to develop the slugs that would fly well from the smooth bore rifles. Actually, at 50 yards, there's little difference between the smooth and rifle in the hands of a competent shooter.

Where\'d it go.jpg

Those are 40-43 yard groups shot a couple years ago. I don't spend a lot of time shooting for groups with this gun though...

That's excellent accuracy for a smoothbore! Plenty of accuracy and power to take biggames out to 100 yards. I don't think anything can survive with a .62 slug through the lungs.

Extra nice shot, but less of the "old guy" please Gary, you're the same age as me and I'm young.....I thinkmore confused
Now, did the recoil knock the old fella over?

Well, they say "it's not the years, it's the miles" Neil. winking smiley Hey ... when judging performance issues, it's either "not bad for an old guy ..." or "pretty pathetic for a young guy ..." haha. Take 'yer pick. thumbs up

Hey Jerry,

I used the photobucket direct link. What you see first ... is a player that looks like the one here on Rendezvous. However; there is a "full screen" button option. When you click that ... you still get the same basic image size ... BUT ... that screen has the icon in the lower right that indicates that the display can be stretched. I can stretch that to the full screen of my laptop.

This is an HD video. There's a vast amount of information. Jerry can see amazing detail on his monster screen in the "studio". haha. But ... we mortals have to do the best with the meager tools we have. wink

Conspiracy! After I shot the thing literally about 30 times with Barnes slugs cast by Surefire, "they" knock it down. surrender

I think Gary and Jerry had it staked down and ran out and unstaked it while I was swapping out tanks. tongue sticking out smiley

Great! Awesome shot, yes, with awesome smoothbore!

I grew to like and understand smoothbores after reading about Woodsman, Justice and like air guns. Then I started to mode my sam yang... then we made smoothbore barrel to it, and now we are making special mold or molds to cast slugs for that barrel and gun. Interesting time...

Good luck with your project gun. It's great fun to experiment with slug designs. Fun to get them into the field and watch them fly. thumbs up

Hey ... I noticed we caught the Barnes trigger's first stage "Click". Watch it again. We like these triggers. I actually started making them with this Woodsman. It's HISTORY ... in the flesh (er ... billet, steel, and springs). grinning smiley
