Reggie asked for help regarding posting pics here. It wasn't possible to just give a thumbnail, without getting into some things that are basic knowledge to moving pics around computers, and on the net. Since I put a bunch of detail into the answer .. I thought I'd make it a feature here ... so folks could find it. Maybe it will help you learn more, and enjoy the net more. I hope so. Green bowing

Here's the process for pics, on Rendezvous:

Take note of the bold green letters ... (in the box below, for drafting comments)... that shows a paper clip, and says Attach a file ... Click that. It will offer you a "Browse" choice. Click that. That will take you to where you store pics on your own computer. You can click around, until you find the one you like. NOW >>> Pay attention here. You must already have your picture on file, at a size which the forum will accept. That's the thing that throws people. If you shoot a picture especially for the forum use ... set your camera on VGA in your menu (that's the menu which will deal with "file size" in the camera menu. Most cameras today, are capable of taking pics of file sizes from 6 megs to 14 megs. Those are huge file sizes, and we cannot allow the forum's software to have to process those huge files. Cameras default to this huge size, so you can crop out sections of the photo, and print with detail. But ... mostly, it's just a huge file size which takes up enormous storage space. So; we limit the file size to 200K. You can set your camera to VGA in the "Image file size" menu ... and you are golden, right from the start. Soooo much easier to post. BUT .....

Sizing Picture Files:

Now ... if you have shot your pics at a larger file size ... you will have to downsize them. Some programs which store the pics on your computer, will allow you to alter, and resize them. Here's what will give you the size you need: The Resolution of the pictures, is critical. That's a factor of the density of the picture. The higher the resolution, the more detail which will be there. For the net, you only NEED to use 72 dpi .... that's Dots Per Inch. Imagine the old newspaper photos. Look at them under magnification, and they are a mess of dots. The bigger the dots, the lower the resolution. As resolution gets lower and lower ... a picture will look "fuzzy" or "pixelated". BUT ... at 72 dpi ... pictures on computers still look good. Now ... you CAN also use 300 dpi. That still looks pretty decent when printed. That's another story ... but ... some cameras shoot their small VGA files (for computers) in 300 dpi. My pocket Nikon does that.

Reviewing "Resolution" as related to picture files, on your computer.

IF your camera has shot your pic in 300 dpi (which will show in the menu for "image size" in your computer's picture processing program) .... then you can let the 300 show in the dpi resolution box ... and change the picture size WIDTH to between 1.5 and 2.5 inches. Might not make sense, but that will give you a pic that will show full size, and clear on the forum. It will be under 200K in total file size. You might also be asked to rename the new altered pic (so you don't loose your full sized origonal file). When asked to rename the file ... you will be given a choice as to "quality" ... choose something like 5 out of 10 or whatever gives you that total under 200k ... something like 150K is great. Now - if you choose to have your pic sized with 72 dpi ... then you can set the width to as much as 10 inches ... and it will still look great on the screen.

That's a lot of information ... but that's mostly about photoshop processing of images on a computer. Standard stuff. Not things that are required by the forum ... but just things folks learn about computers ... in order to be able to send e-mails, or move files around, print pictures, etc. Standard stuff. Thing is ... the forum says any pic file needs to be UNDER 200K file size for each picture.

Back to posting them here ... once you have a proper sized pic. Remember - you CAN have an already proper sized picture ... IF you set your camera to shoot in VGA file size. That's not detailed enough for good quality printed pictures (like to set on the mantle) ... BUT it's great for the net - and will appear detailed on your computer.

Now ... all that said ... once you go to "Attach a file" , and then hit "Browse" ... and then find your picture that's under 200k ... you just click on it, and hit OPEN at the bottom of your screen. That will put it bring it to the forum, then you hit "Attach" ... and it will embed it into the forum's memory file of pics. It will show in a list, from which you can build your new post. To put it in the text ... just type along, making your narration. Leave the cursor where you want the pic to appear, and go up and hit "Place In Line" beside the picture in your list of loaded pictures. The program will put in the name of the pic file, in place where your cursor was in the text you are writing.

Finishing your post.

After this, you build your post. When you are done, you CAN hit Preview ... to see what it will look like .... OR just hit "Post Message" at the bottom.

We'd love to see your pics.

Best,
Gary
