Re: Carving

GREY FOX - Rendezvous Class 45/08

Looking thru my pic files, I thought I'd do a post on my latest design. A light weight hunting/target rifle, I call the Rendezvous Class. This one is in my 45/08 caliber. It shoots a series of Barnes custom slugs from approx. 200-400 grains.

Rendezvous_leftb.jpg

It has a traditional dropped buttstock. The hammer mechanism is inside the stock there.

Rendezvous_breechb.jpg

It uses a slide breech. Easy to load multiple slug designs.

Rendezvous Class 46b 061.jpg

Detail

Rendez45_carvingb.jpg

I carved the Mahogany stocks in an Oak Leaf and Acorn motif.

45_08b 028.jpg

It shot the 290 grain Barnes Bishop slug @ 814 fps for 427 fpe.

45_08 029b.jpg

It shot the light weight 216.2 grain Hornet @ 900 fps.

It actually got away from me before I could fully chart it. But - with the heavy 400+ grain slugs, it would be well over 500 fpe.

A nice smaller format powerhouse PCP.

Hope you enjoyed a look. I have shown it some on my site, but thought maybe some would like a look here. Thanks.

Gary

Gary,
Is the stock the same kind of mahogany you always use?. It looks like English walnut. Does the sliding breech twist or have a catch on it. Dory

Dory,

I purchase Mahogany planks from a large saw mill. It's a South American product.

There are considerable density differences between planks. The more highly figured, the more dense the wood, and the darker and rich the color. The best quality is very dense indeed. The more straight grain, the more light in weight, and the more plain in color.

Mahogany ages really well. It becomes more and more rich with a few years.

The breech has double O ring seals at each end. It slides back and forth. There's no need for any sort of latch. The O rings "Grab" during the time the breech is pressurized.

Dory,

The sliding breach works great and is solid when shooting.

Gary,

If you want to do more chart work on the rifle, let me know and I will bring it up with me on my next trip to the DC area.

Another work of art Gary.

I spent many hours browsing your "big site" before I bought my first PCP a few years ago. Always amazing to see your craftsmanship. Only started doing my own machining and parts building in the last 5 months or so but one day..............I'll have the confidence to attempt building a compelete one from scratch (except rifling the barrel).

Great that You, Jerry, and ?? got this little forum started.

Jerry,

If I can get some air I'm going to take it to the range before Christmas. Karl and I are meeting up in Tampa after the first of the year and I hope getting air is no longer a problem.

Lon,

What are you doing tomorrow? I have lead. Also, where is that place you mentioned to me to get air in Coral Gables?

Keith,

I'm working all week, I had Christmas off last year and I rotate each year with the guy I work with, we are a 24/7 shop. E-mail me, I'll send you my phone number and we'll get you shooting ASAP!

My dive shop is on US1 and Lejune(42) ave, he may card(diver cert.) you. What do you need, just air or filling equipment? I'll get you going no matter.

Call me, I'm home until 2:00p everyday.

P.S. They used to have a dive shop further south on US1 about 104st, "Austins".

Lon,

All I need is air. I have a 4500psi tank and hookup, its just getting the air that is an issue. If I ahd a male/mal foster connector I could take it to the local paintball shop to fill by feeding the tank through the feed hose, but they do not have any tank conectors. I will swing by the dive shop and see if they will hook me up. I have my dive card around somewhere... What days are you off?

Moving this back to the front. I know I've posted many different guns on the site ... yet; when I try to find one to share with someone ... I can't find the things myself. They've moved back thru the pages, and are now buried in the depths of the basement. Thus; I'll run across a catchy named post, which has 763 views ... with hardly anything in the post ... and something like this will only have 200 cause it got lost.

So; as I can find these pages on different model guns, I'll bring them forward and make them a sticky for the time being (until I have time to properly post them where they can be found). Til I have time .... hahah ... humor ... laughing again

I really like that carving. It is beautiful and makes the rifle a unique piece. Not that most of the Barnes guns aren't unique already...

Well, I'm still salivating over the Rendezvous....what sort of shot count does it give, Gary?

Cheers

Hi Neil,

It's set up pretty hot. Gets three shots per fill though.
