Hugh brought up the subject of sighting his Nitro Express 46. I just ran across this archived material today ... when looking for something else. I post it here to review the subject.



First ... a Bison 58 was used ... with open sights



I had an old used pc. of OSB board I scrounged at my buddy's farm. Here was my only 203 yard group. This was with open sights, as shown on the rifle.



The slug, at that range, would punch the plywood, and shatter the 2 by 4 post as well. It was a 469 grain Barnes Slug.



I also shot the same range, a few days later, with the Yukon 2 in 58 caliber. That had a 4X Simmons Turkey shotgun scope mounted. Here's the target.



Here's what it looks like thru the scope.



Here's my aim points as the scope remained fixed.



Here's the Yukon II GS 58

The gun shoots the same. The eye requires a larger target spot to center on - at distance. You can still shoot well.

That Yukon II is one of my favorites. It looks so nice.

If you compare the two 203 yds groups, oh by the way great groups, it seems like the one shot with the open sights is the best one. At 200 yards I barely see the target without the help of a good scope.

im not actually sure that in some countrys its legal to shoot airguns at those distances ,,,,, what happened to the 100 yds was a long way school of thought .
