Re: Extreme Magnification

Extreme Magnification

I found a neat way to take very close up pictures. Using a lense from a laser pointer. The cheap pointers you can buy at a dollar store. Found a YouTube video showing the build using this approach.

This came about investigating ideas for checking saw blade sharpness at work. The edge might scratch the finger nails but may not be sharp enough to cut aluminum.

Just how sharp or dull is the edge of my Center drill?

Swarf from drilling...

Estimate that the magnification is 40X in first picture to 175X larger in last picture.

I learned again how to embed the video. Seems it only works on the desktop mode.

Thanks for reading, hope it’s useful!

Thanks Gary!

I hope it comes in handy. I bet it could be useful fro precision engraving as well?

FYI Canada has Thanksgiving about a month before USA. Had a good one!

Blessings

That's pretty neat . Did you make one without to much fiddling around ? The clarity is amazing.

Thanks

Isn't that great? Now, where are those laser pointers I had hanging on a nail in Maryland. Ha.

Let me know how it goes Kurt.

Now, wehave to convert the build to glass. Plexi isn't really clear. Unless I have some better grade .... hummmmm.

I bet a glass objective lens could be ordered in place of the plastic lens from the laser printer. But would cost more. Larger lens might provide a bigger field of view?

But a glass slide would be much better than plastic. No scratches and much clearer.

Hi Kurt,

It took about 5 minutes to make what I used. Piece of plexiglass and drilled a7mm hole. Popped in the lens and started playing with okay thanks. Making a nice stand would be the way to go as you need to be very still.

Still a very simple approach to getting decent close ups.
