A new series of Model 97 “Pack Knives”. A knife to always have with you. Ultra light, trim.

The Sheep’s Foot Blade Knife is mine. I haven’t had a knife of my own for years. I wanted to try out the new features of the Pack Knife build too. For myself, I have always enjoyed the Wharncliff Blade (or Sheep’s Foot Blade shape). So I designed one to test as mine. But there are plenty of other shapes available.

Price target at $350 base as shown.

Tell me your reactions.

Thanks

Different shots for you to examine.

Let’s have a discussion. Hope you like my pocketknife. I’ve drawn these out in sizes from 5 3/8” open to 7 3/4” open.

Mine is from .080” A2 Tool Steel. That’s served me well, but I have other steels as well. O-1 is a great high carbon Tool Steel that is not stainless. I had a nice conversation with an older gent recently who felt sure Stainless was a tool of the devil. Sure hope not, but some share that opinion. It depends upon many things, not the least who heat treats it. When these blades shave chips from cold rolled bar stock - they’ll probably get you thru the day. Check. Still, I can hook ya up.

Take a look. Will look for your comments.

Gary.

Really would appreciate discussion. We have such a nice opportunity here to discuss work. I wish we’d take advantage of it. But then ... if you’d rather watch the food channel ... haha
I like it Gary. It's elegant design and simple bolsters come at a reasonable price. This is one for the pocket, not one to put away and show to friends for the amazing filing and exquisite bolsters. I have 2 of your great knives, but neither of them are lock blade. When I show them off to friends they all like the craftsmanship that went into them and then say but the blade doesn't lock. So my take from this is the now view for knifes is that they can lock. I have always wanted one of your Model 97's . This is a good compromise for the price and still get a Barnes Model 97. I would say the world falling apart from this virus will inhibit any sales that isn't essential until the economy gets stabilized. So that's my 2 cents .
Hope to see you on the other side. Bob

Hi Bob.

Thanks for commenting.

Story: A rep from a big custom knife marketing group told me last year, that the new hot ticket was spring backs (like yours). So Hah ha ... it’s always up to your current audience. Spring Backs have been the standard Folder for two hundred years. You can’t stay on the leading edge of Social whim. Next your it will be something else. Right now it’s 97 Pack Knives!!!!! Hah. Ride the wave ....

This is a sweet knife and timely idea I believe.

Check the video I just loaded please. And don’t be a stranger. You never need to buy. Just share in the Rendezvous. I’m always very glad to see you. Best to the Mrs.

Thanks much,
Gary

Perfect size for the Jeans Watch Pocket ... and leaves the full pocket open for “stuff”.

The 97 is a great utilitarian knife. I like the simplicity and have really come to appreciate the Wharncliff blade. The lock closed and locked open design of the 97 is great! Mine has a smooth enough action it just flips open with a flick of the wrist and locks in place.
At this price point everyone should be carrying one every day! For a tool like this at this price, they should sell like hot cakes.

Thanks so much Scott,

Always good to hear from you.

I’m so glad you are using your 97. They have great features if you put them into your daily routine. They take the use too. I specifically contact people and ask how they are performing. The “Self Frame” knives hold up very well. I’ve carried them too, and have been very pleased.

I make certain that the stress points are engineered well. “Engineering” is the correct term. That’s “Using the correct material and size for the task”. In error though, it’s commonly believed that more is better. If a bar of “One inch Steel” will perform well, hey; why not use “3” steel!” .... then complain that the thing is too darned heavy! (Haha). However; if the intended use never over-stresses the part, and your choice of material and size holds up well - you are Golden. I’ve found methods of design which yields a great product that is pleasant to use. And thus; the 97 was originated, and my “Self Frame 97s” shortly afterwards.

Thanks so much Scott,
Gary
Gary I'll take one of those base model. To good to pass up at that price point.

Hello Rick,

It’s great to hear from you, and I’ll be honored to make a Pack Knife for you. Thank you Sir.

Best
Gary
I love it! I’d buy this one off you right now if you’re going to sell it.

Actually, isn’t that sort of your usual tradition? whistling

In all seriousness, I love this blade shape and it seems like it a great value for a custom knife at this price point. I have always been more of a knife user than a collector so this really works for me.
