NOW SOLD. Thank You!

Please look thru the completed set of pics. I can’t just “Show” without “Explaining”. This little Barlow has a lot of nice features. I have an antique Barlow. Probably 80 ish years old. There was a time when the Barlow was Ubiquitous. If you had a pocketknife in your pocket, it was 8 out of 10 times going to be a Barlow. That’s a long bolster, Clip Point Blade, of Spring Back Design (pull open, snap shut), with bone scales. The bone might be just smooth, or jigged with various pattern, or even Carved and dyed to Copy Stag.

These “Barlows” got used, abused, poorly sharpened by grinding away huge metal with bench grinders, and tossed in the toolbox or kitchen “junk drawer” when the Blade was worn off to a nub. If someone knew what the “kick” of the blade was (that toe of steel that projects straight down 90 degrees under the back termination of the edge .... If someone knew that went inside the case and hit the inside bottom of the back Spring ... thus stopping the closing blade from slamming its edge into said Spring ... well..... If one knew these things, then a few strokes with a careful mill file, would allow that worn blade (which had a dangerous exposed worn off blade point) to seat that point deeper into the case. This would keep you from poking and unzipping your fingers on an older abused Barlow. Just a little care and maintenance would keep a Barlow lively and useful for generations. You could keep the blade sound and clean and sharp ... but you were not going to keep the Carbon Steel Blade from “Greying”, and “minor pitting”. It didn’t make any difference to the tool. It was like your faithful dog getting a whiteish/grey muzzle thru the years.

And so; when I thought to make a series of Grand Paw’s Barlow ... I envisioned him knowing how to sharpen a knife, how to oil the hinge, and I saw it “ready” to be passed to another generation, or a good friend.

Here it is. A nice tool which has a reasonable degree of detail, quality, and one wearing it’s white muzzle proudly. Enjoy.

There is a “Thumb Grate” to keep your thumb positioned while whittling. There’s natural bone carved and dyed as Stag. Plenty to enjoy.
Other details in the first post. If you’d care to discuss “terms” of payment I’d be fine to consider. Don’t go away. We can make it work for you.

Best
Gary

Grand Pap loved that Spine File Art, and the Fluted Bolsters. That’s “Bone Stag” that Barnes Carved and Dyed. Feels great to the hand. Looks just right. Nickel Liners and Brass bolsters. Beautiful smooth action. Put yourself in the story for $685 and $8 Priority Shipping.

This one is the Prototype. 6 1/8” Open.

It would be very much appreciated. We use PayPal too. Just ask and I’ll get you the needed info. That would be helpful.

God Bless
Gary

Here’s my approx 80+ year old Barlow. I bought it in an Antique Emporium, about 40 years ago. I used it in between me selling “My Barnes” knives, and finding a chance to make another for myself. You can compare the essential features. The orig. has steel liners and bolsters. Bone scales. A Carbon Steel Blade. No markings.

Thanks a bunch for the cuff I received today. As always they look WAY better in real time . The pics are good but hanging on your wrist it’s amazing.

The Barlow is very nice . I too have an old one in my tackle box I only used when fishing. I haven’t had my spruce cone Barlow you made me out for a while . That’s the one I think I cut my lip eating sardines at work. It’s SOOOO sharp . I kinda miss the green scales and brass carved bolsters . Maybe time to get it back out !
I’m sure someone will snatch that new one up at that price . She’s a beauty.

Thanks
Kurt
