It's been a busy start to spring hunting (smallbore)

It's been a busy start to spring hunting (smallbore)

I spotted a hare across the valley first thing in the morning a week or so back, and there was only a light breeze, so I got out the Falcon .22

The hare lasered at 115 yards, sitting on the hillside directly above the Falcon barrel in the pic above.
The Falcon did its job quickly and quietly

It was nice to see our furry friends out and about finally.
My next attempt at distance was a failure, and things didn't sound right, so a few days later, after some investigation, I replaced the breech "O"-ring and I was back in business.Got this bunny at 69 yards up behind the garage

Then I spotted another specimen across the valley, at 81 yards by the black water-trough in the middle of the picture.

This was a much more difficult shot as I had to shoot off the knee due to the steep slope of the hill, and the bunny was through a fence partly obscured by a warratah stake. I sat on a log so my bum didn't get wet and with one of my Highland cattle snorting in my ear, I took the shot.

You can see where the pellet exited at the rear having travelled through the length of the body.
The Falcon was back on track.

Finally, last Sunday was hot all day but unusually calm for a Nor'Wester. I went for a hunt early afternoon with the Falcon but saw nothing. We had tea early evening and when it came to dessert it was a bit hot inside the house so I took mine out onto the back deck. That's when I looked up the valley and saw a bunny grazing not too far past the 100 yard mark on my shooting range. So out came the Falcon and the range-finder, and this bunny ranged at 111 yards. Then the Falcon did the business...

It looks a looong way back to my shooting bench...

I love with this Falcon. So do the local hawks, they have had a field day!

Hi Neil,

You really have that Falcon dialed in. That is some fine shooting. Well done.

After Tea, during Dessert, just like the rugged Men of Olde! winking smiley

Thanks for posting!

Thanks Gary, Lon and Julio
I'm pretty lucky to live where I do, that's for sure.
The Falcon is a special little gun that is always dependable and a pleasure to shoot. And very quiet so my hunting does not disturb my wife or neighboursgrinning smiley
Cheers

You've got a good location for shooting off the porch, that natural bowl shape is a great backstop.
