Hi Garry, those are mind bogling 202 yrd groups. Interesting that they are'nt four times the size of the 52 yrders, Great shooting and I'm glad you got the valve sorted, these things happen now and then when you are forever ultering and refining, had a few myself. Thanks for your thoughts Garry, I'm about 300 mile from Christ Church. The quakes were felt here but only just. Telecomunications and other services are still down in parts of Christ Church and the CBD is closed off to the general public. Neils house is in view of the epicentre of the quake so he may be tenting at present. I have family and friends up there but fortunately none have been injuredby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi guys, there are a number of hand gun manufacturers that use polygon barrels. I'm not sure what the advantages V disadvantages are but I haven't seen one on a rifle yet. The micro rifleing has been around for some decades now and has proven quite popular with the target shooters esp target pistol which tend to be loaded on the light side. I have experimented with a rifleing button which used 4by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Very nice Gary, long slow pitch should suit those diablo style slugs youv'e been makeing. Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Garry, Very nice groups especialy from a pistal. It will be interesting to see how these slugs group at distance from a rifle.Way to go, Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Jerry, Thanks for the opinion. You may well be right in that the physics are such that the end result will either be a disappointment or way too big and awkward to be practical. I made a pump up gun not so long ago just as a experiment chambered in .308. It would put out two shots at 51 fpe before needing another 38 pumps to get it back up to preasure. I know I can improve on this so the pump upby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Jerry and All. I've been toying with the Idea of building a .308 springer myself. Have you any Idea how well the .308 springer goes or how it is structured ? I would be very greatfull for some numbers or maybe even some photo's.Cheers Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi again Pedro,My experience with airguns(which is less extensive than others) is that with a given FPS(say 500 fps) in any calibre you will achieve much the same distance for the weight of slug relative to the bore.Say for eg you had a .30 cal and a .58 cal both shooting balls at 500 fps you would find that they would have about the same range but the .58 cal would be carrying about 8-9 times thby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi again Pedro,Just a thought. In the past I have used an of the shelf mould and tongs of a slightly smaller calibre than what I am aiming for and simply turned out the mould block to what I've wanted. Its a lot easier and quicker than makeing a mould from scratch.Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
HI Pedro,I've made several .50 cal barrels both for ball and slug.If you are intending to use off the shelf ammo then obviously you will need to make your barrel accordingly. With slugs you will generaly find that .001'' interference in the larger PCD (over the lands) after sizeing works quite well and .003''-.004'' of grove is more forgiving with different slugs than the shallower groves which sby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thats very nice Garry, love the finnish and style, an instant classic. How man shots off a single fill at what fpe is it configured for ?Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Allen,Garry and all.Thats real interesting data.Like Gary I'm very interested in the valve lock occuring at diffferent preasures with the different gas's.As Garry has quite rightly said, preasure is preasure, however it would seem that the difference in density ulters the flow characteristics which initself ulters the effect that the flowing gas's have on the valve. I'm also interested in the dby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry, the original .38's had what they call a heal type slug that stepped down to fit inside the case. The 38x55 for eg had an OA of .377 (case and slug) with a .010'' wall thickness to the case. Somewhere along the way someone had the bright idea of shortening the case and casting a slug that would fit inside without the step, ie .357 (which is the .38 special) and of course latter on the .38by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Allen Garry and all,I did a little experimenting with CO2 a while back. We are in for some law changes in NZ in regards to air rifles that will limit the ownership and use of higher powered pcp's(in exess of 36 jules/24 ft lb's) to persons who are vetted by the police to have a current NZ firearms licence.Up untill now anyone over 18 years could own and use any air rifle regardless of it's poby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry, just personal choice. I hand craft funiture which I tend to keep quite simple. If a customer wants carving thats ok, I can do some reasonable carving. However if I was passionate about carving the end result would show such. Each to there own and I love your work as it is it clearly shows that you think outside of the square.Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry, thats very nice indeed. I must admit when I first saw your air guns the idea of carving on the wood didn't appeal, however it's growing on me.Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Neil, glad to here you and your family are safe and well. I've been keeping an eye on the news as I have family and friends up in Christ Church, fortunitly none of them have been badly effected. I thought of you and yours when I saw that there had been a rather strong aftershock in Lyttelton habour not far from where you live. Hope things get back to relative normality for you soon. I'm with Jerry on some of his suggestions. You might recall me describeing the first air rifle that I designed and built. It ended up as a .30 cal,had a six shot revolving mag and was capable of 16-18 shots at about 100 fpe off a fill.I found it more than capeable of taking goats cleanly out to 70-80 yrds. The cylinder originally indexed when the bolt was pulled back which also cocked the hammer, buby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thats great Garry, to attain the target fpe first off.Looking forward to more posts on the progress of this gun.Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thanks guys,The wood police should'nt be too worried. I used some Elm on this one which I milled off a friends farm about ten years ago with an Alaskan mill,I've also milled out some interesting fruit woods from around here as I live in an fruit growing region. The Apricot wood is real nice.Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Finished off this 9mm carbine a while back. I wanted something a bit bigger than a .30 that I could keep the air up to with a hand pump. It’s nothing outstanding performance or design wise but a nicely balanced gun that will take a red deer out to 150 yrds. I initially had it running 260 fpe with 183 grn spitzers but didn't have enough air to balance three primary shots off a single fill and thby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry and All,I've made several Ball moulds(some woked out better than others).Rather than make a spherical mill bitt I Profile ground a tool to the correct radius.I set one half of the mould block up in the four jaw offset so as the final half sphere finnished about .030'' from what would be the top of the mould.Prior to this I turned a piece of Alluminium to the finnish OD to use as a guide(by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hey Garry,That cuda shoots as good as it looks.Thats astonishing for the first time out and with Lee slugs,Way to go.Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Very nice Garry,Great numbers for such a light slug, and you have still to tune it.If I may coment Garry, the pivot pin for the Rocker/Fireing lever appears offset to give the hammer greater purchase over the valve, this should take advantage of the30'' barrel length and work great with heavier slugs(at least thats my expearience).Your project is shapeing up real nice. Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry,Very funky piece,Very nice even at this stage.Just looking at it it would have taken some nutting out.The hammer appears to cock back which would require some interesting porting' or is the hammer in backwards for the photo shoot.Good to see people thinking outside of the square,You truley are an Artist.Dannyby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry,Nice groups for 200yrds.The rifling marks seem to have a left hand pitch but appear quite slow.As in most cases the rate of spin of a slug decreases at about the same rate as the velocity ,I would say that the the rifling in your 8mm is also quite slow.If you are running your LFC slugs they may need to be driven faster to achieve enough spin to stablize.Air rifles generaly tend to preferby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Neil and All.I've also had occosions when my guns would shoot better groups out at distance than in at closer range.Sometimes I think it was either the barrel I used (usually a second handy of a Rifle)being worn or simply having the wrong rifleing pitch.Other times it may have been because the fireing valve was still open when the slug left the barrel.I found that by fitting a muzzle break orby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Neil,Fantastic group there,Precession is the force that hellicopters use to bank or why boomerangs come back or why when you hold a bike wheel by the axle and get someone to spin it and then try to ulter it's axis it will pull around the axis(try it some time ). Gyroscopics is a subject that has always intrigued me although I'm no expert on the matter. It is also why low velocity guns like pcp'by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Neil,Great post. Are these groups off one fill or are they fired line fed ?.Also how do the 120gn hollows crono up?.Nice groups by the way.Dannyby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
