Working on the stock set for the 56 Bison of Mr. Butler.

Bison Stock 001.JPG

Lay out. Relieve for band saw blade at corners.

Bison Stock 002.JPG

Profile both the rear stock and the forestock.

Bison Stock 005.JPG

Planing the thickness. Careful attention to the grain run out. The planner can tear out the wood if you run it through backwards and the knives grab the grain.

Bison Stock 007.JPG

Completed thickness adjustment

Bison Stock 008.JPG

Starting milling in the grooves after the stock was carefully sawn for the clam shell design.

Sanding and shaping this evening with a burr in a pneumatic die grinder. It was running really slow. No power. Compressor was up. That wasn't it. So, I lubed it. Tiny help. I figure the air filter is clogged. It's a big can type. I disassemble. Clean. Install another cartridge. Tony help. I do a bit more. Very weak again. Bummer. I think I have a replacent unit. Look around .... Twice. No deal. Can't find it. Lube more. Nope. Sometimes you can't pull it out. Have to buy another unit in the am. Guess it's time for coffee. winking smiley

Nice job Gary!

It's so exiting to see the whole project coming together and so close to be completed. As all the other Bisons, this one it’s a true classic. I really hope that Mr. Butler enjoys it.

I have more pics I wanted to share. Photobucket, for some reason, will not upload anything for me today.

I've made a new sander that really helps with the concave surfaces. Of course, its hand held and controlled. After that, it's strap sanding by hand.

I also made another mount post to hold my wood vise. It allows a greater variety of holds to optimize my hand control.
