Cast some .452 SWC's for my 909s

Cast some .452 SWC's for my 909s

I cast some SWC .452's from a Lee mold that I picked up recently. This mold drops them at 200 grains in pure lead

I was a bit concerned they would be a bit loose in the 909s bore, so I did the swimming pool test and found they were engraving OK

I shot a few groups at 100 yards through my 909s, each group off one fill, not tethered

The groups average 2.3" ctc.
With a bit of tweaking of fill pressure/technique I think I should be able to shoot MOA with these slugs...
My Sammy 909s is not high-powered, shooting these slugs at around 750 fps and 250 fpe.
Cheers

Your slugs look like jewelry Neil. Good job!

Actually, I came to casting via the bottom pour Lee Pro 4-20. I never knew that you let the cast iron ladle in the pot either. Never did it. Looks like it does a great job.

Your rifle seems to like those slugs. You can't shoot that tight with a wild slug. We found that those guns like my Raptor slug, very much. I know you are around the corner there, but if you ever get curious, Jerry could hook ya up.

You are doing a masterful job. Well done. (Don't lick your fingers). Free tip I learned thru many years of experience. winking smiley

Gary, I still have some of your Raptors (in tasteful Gold cladding) that Jerry cast up for me...I am saving them for special occasions!

Gary, special occasions like this:

and this:

Howver, the second group is a bit of a mystery to me....way back then I labelled it "909s75" and the colour around the holes say it's Barnes Raptors, but the mists of time have obscured what distance I shot it at (is the "75" 75 yards or is it a .75" group???) and I can't find if or when I posted about it, but I like it...smiling smiley

Boy, those sure are some shiny, beautiful slugs, almost seems like a shame to go shooting them out of an airgun they look so nice...almost. winking smiley

That "new lead shine" reminds me of those cast lead skull rings they used to sell at every flea market table when I was a kid, they had that same look. I always wanted one of those when I was in middle school and when I finally did get one it turned out that not only did it tarnish to a flat, dull, look right away, it was way too heavy to wear around all the time (duh, it's made out of LEAD!eye rolling smiley).

Those flea market guys must have cast them every Friday just to get ready for sucker like me on the weekends.

Cheers Sean, pity the shine doesn't last!cooler
That lead ring would have made a good knuckle-duster....
