Here and There - during the Holidays!!! Saddle Back Knife!

My Saddle Back Folder disassembles easily. Or, at least it has since I did not yet make permanent connections; it comes apart easily. I've picked at it here and there, when I had an hour to relax, between Holiday opportunities.

I have finished the parts and carved it.

Later, the Boys and I have designed and made a Rubber Band Gun. I designed a neat trigger/sear mechanism. Oh the possibilities!!! Hah!!

Enjoy ...

That turned out great . The acorns & and oak leaves are a great addition. Did you say that was bone ? It sure looks like antler . I was asking because I was wondering if you used your new vacuum system for the staining / stabilizing on it . I love the color .
Thanks

Thanks
Kurt

Hi Kurt.

It's a split antler. Yes. I might have said that I made a bone spacer between the two sides. Some species of deer have barely any honeycomb structure inside. Others have more. You are correct, for some projects, I could use my vacuum method. However, were I want the outside to remain natural, I'll use my traditional method of petrifying the interior honeycomb.

I like the color too. Thanks. I mixed the dye.

There are quite a few different techniques used in these knives from the more traditional build. They do have a more obvious "handmade" origon. But they can be made to a quite elegant level.

Thanks Kurt!

Gary, That's looking beautiful! I have always liked your "acorns and oak leaves".
If you complete that knife, you know you won't be able to keep it....
