Now ...., is that something in one of those plexiglass tubes at AREA 51 ???

Close!

It's WOOD in the process of being STABALIZED here at BPS !!!! It was actually GROWN here at BPS!!!! I've searched it out. Harvested it. Dried it. Sliced it up. I've vaccumed the air out of it in my vac chamber, and it's now finishing it's infusion. Then bake to activate the resin. It will be stable and become extremely hard.

thumbs up

Oh .... SPALTED SOUTHERN LIVE OAK

Gary

Now he's growing his own WOOD!!! why me

Gary,

It is not about just growing your own wood... It is that you not only want to grow it.. You want to make it better than wood.

High standards. ha ha ...

Cannot wait to see it.

Hi Larry!

Right. We can make it BETTER than Wood! We have the technology!! We can make it into WOOD!!!

Bionic Wood.

Can't wait to grind and polish a piece of it!

That look great and I'm sure we are all excited to see what you do with it ! It looks like a lot of work after even finding the wood . Can you tell if it's spalted without cutting the tree first or is it like a geode & just a suprise when you cut it open ?

Ps: Did you find it while excavating in the skeeter tar pit ?Another idea!

Thanks
Kurt

Sorry Kurt,

I overlooked your post.

You have to observe the end grain or a broken area.

There are conditions which promote the growth. Moisture and ground contact mainly.

I'll be learning how to best cut the wood to feature the phenomenon

well, since there is WOOD being discussed, you knew that eventually I would wander by...more innocent

Spalted wood is REALLY cool, and this looks it started as some nice stuff before it was magically transformed - haha

I think spalted wood NEEDS stabilizing, 'cause otherwise it is pretty weak - the end grain stuff is still weak even after stabilization, so that limits its applications some.

I'm sure you will come up with some interesting ideas nowthatIthink

I wondered if anybody would notice. The end grain pcs. display a natural "Tree of Life" pattern in the spalting. It began with some crossections matured, then ran out. Therefore; I will complete a limited edition of those pcs. Maybe 6-8 of them. I think it will be quite special.

Gary

There are a group of the discs that did not fit in the last batch. I'll do them soon.
