I need another few hours, but certainly you can see this fine pocket Folder.

Main choice now, is to "Stain and Polish", or "Polish". Sorry, I can't show you each way. I go to great lengths to make the sides from matching bone. That allows the dye to color as evenly as possible. I've mostly always stained them an Amber Brown. The dye brings out beautiful color play in the varying density of the bone. You know how any color of hair is not ONLY one single color per each strand. It's a spectrum of complementary colors which blend into a pleasing effect. Same for dying natural materials.

"Why not let it Perfect white?" Well, I could let it alone. Only sand and polish. But it WILL have grey and some black specks that appear from handling and buffing compound. It's like the perfectly white dress. You get ONE atom of color lint on it and you can see it from across the room. However; i could just polish. But I won't guarantee perfect white.

The action of the knife is great. I'm getting pretty good at this! Haha.

Ok ..RELEASED NOW ..... THE KNIFE IS ON HOLD!!!!. !!!! RELEASED NOW!!!!With $16 USPS PRIORITY MAIL AND INSURANCE.

PLEASE DROP YOUR MARKER HERE. (Just post that you WANT IT). We can clean it up from there.

The handle will be blended, rounded, polished. It will be an elegant folder. AT THIS POINT IN PROGRESS, I decided to inlay the bone scales.

Thanks All.
Gary

Nobody said anything, so I decided to go this route.

A great scroll inlay. It will be polished white. (With the inlay, the eye doesn't single out any little natural flecks in the color of the bone. It sees white, and then concentrates on the inlay. ). Part of Art is deciphering the psychology of the eye. Most important.

The knife will be complete today. YOU HAVE OPTIONS FOR PAYMENT The PRICE for this INLAID FOLDER is ... $575US, plus $16 for USPS .... WHICH MAY BE split into payments of $325 and $250 balance inside 35 days. . OR $550 plus $16 USPS, FOR YOUR CHECK TOMORROW ..... .... OR $525 plus $16 USPS, FOR PAYPAL TODAY ... saving you a possible $50.

Thanks for considering,
God Bless

Gary

Nearly complete. There's the DOT list.

I'll finish in the morning. My back/legs have been extremely painful starting about a week before Christmas. I just have to call it for tonight ....

Thanks for reading

Gary, another beautiful knife!

Can you tell us how you do that inlay? It looks quite intricate.

And is it currently still available, or is it still on hold?

That musta been a good looking cow .haha Im always impressed at how clean the bone looks once you get it blanked out READY to do what you do ! So this piece has no die or coloring added to it besides the stardust ?
It's a very elegant knife .

Thanks

Hi Kurt,

Correct. Dry, clean bone. Of course ..... wait .....

IMG_9608.JPG

There ya go. Cleaned, boiled, dried .... Cow bone.

No dye here. But ... zoom in and you will see ....

IMG_9611.JPG

..... the little specks related to natural materials. Cellular composition. When dyed, those take the dye differently from the rest of the material. There are grain structures in different parts of the bone as it made up shapes to support weight just so. I go to great efforts to match both sides of a knife handle. And, that is hard because you can usually get a nice wide flat piece and a ..... twisted tapering end. Nutz. But then, you can get a matching shape from another bone. Dye them and one might as well be blue and the other one red. Totally different.

My mention of white bone is relevant only if a customer expects bone to look like ivory. That has no pores, until you get into stuff tens of thousands of years old. You know how a single white sheet of anything can't hide one black dot. So I just generally discourage getting myself into a position of defending "all those dark dots" in bone.

The inlay looks nice in dyed bone too. Maybe some day soon.

Thanks for asking!

Ok .... THE HOLD IS OFF.

Sorry for the mix up. It was just one of those classic Gary Rabbit Holes. I was trying to verify an intention, and just managed to confuse.

IF YOU LIKE THE KNIFE, it's AVAILABLEplease drop your marker.
