It does take a lot of time. I have to prepare the pieces of material. Must make certain there is a pleasing mix of colors and patterns of grain. Then, make a pleasing pattern. Hold the joints to a standard width. Keep the intersections square. And make sure there are not what I call “hot spots”, where your eye zooms in on that part of the composition because there are too many like colors or grain patterns. If your eye scans over the composition in a relaxed manner, then you have designed a nice work.
Of course, bonding, grinding, sanding and polishing are the dirty and time consuming parts. But it all has a wonderful reward when complete.
