The Blank was band sawn to profile.

The radius’ concave grooves are milled using bits (in this case mill cutters I made in 97).

Oooops .... how’d that get in there?!!!

The pockets for the trigger housing has been milled. Details will be incised by hand with razor sharp chisels.

Thanks for checking on progress.

There ya go ....

Hard to get in there with that rusty table knife, but I did it. The only digital control was on my phone.

Enjoy.

Looking GOOD! you must have the sharpest tool cutters that I have seen ! You got to love it when the stock comes together the first iteration.
Good job my friend!

Hi Bob,

Thanks. I met this to be a separate note and intended to greet you too. But since I put it under yours ... I’ll combine Thanks for reading, stopping, commenting Bob. I really appreciate it.

Here’s this evening’s work.

With the steel action encased inside the stock ... clam shell hammer tube Crest in place ... then I have to use my X-ray vision to see where that hammer tube slot is ... how much clearance it needs for hammer travel, and how much wood relief does the Cocking Knob require?

To fit the Crest on ... I had to know all the angles, extensions, and make it “wedge” in place vertically at the same instant that the linear travel takes up. And do it on an angled hammer tube tucked away inside.

Best
Gary

Hi Gary
You know it's the man NOT the machine that make it work so nice . That's probably the hard part I'd think . I've seen your old equipment and it's amazing what you can do with it !

I always tell them at work " All I do is push the buttons " !
Green makes it go & red makes it stop . How hard can it be ??

Thanks
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

You have Ted and Green buttons?! Man, that’s Fancy. My tools were made before they had Red and Green. Ha. I’m fact, since I made many; guess it’s the man that makes the machines and run the tooling the man makes that make the job the man makes ... COFFEE BREAK! More coffee.

Hehe.

Thanks

Gary,

Great work, looks like fun! Some interesting and long endmills! Did you make them or add extensions?

Looks like a really tight fit with the barrel, reservoir etc. Wood is amazingly different from metal when machining.I like how you layed out all the lines for milling, less chance or error.

Getting closer to completion.

Hi Pedro,

I made the 1/4” extended bit. I sharpened both. You need really sharp tools to slice/peel/shave wood. Otherwise you tear/rip/brutalize wood.

I often mark the bits/cutters with depth lines. Incised and colored. I then use the lines outside to reference relative placement.

It is quite s lot of work.

Thks Pedro

I get that it has to be sharp. I work for a window company that makes all wood windows. Most of our tooling is carbide or super sharp high speed steel.
