I’m very pleased with this Model 97.
I’ve made a few prototypes along this build line. Now I’ve completed extensive notes, and drawn detailed diagrams. I’ve charted the Pilot bits used and their order. I hope you like the build.
And all of those blade shapes (and others ... ) will compliment the model. I still have nearly endless new ideas, but I realize I don’t have endless new days .... so; I’m desiring more and more to standardize work. I’m hoping I’ve found something here that you can all support (or at least many of you will).

I sincerely wish I had something for each one of you. (And I wish my health were better). But in the ongoing effort to sustain my shop and pay our bills ... Bob .... your new Knife is complete; and I really like it. I certainly hope you do as well.

Best
Gary

*So you all know, a knife like this is currently $575. (No money changes hands until the knife is complete). I will still offer a simpler build, and just have to force myself to keep it simpler! That will depend upon the market. For the quality per cost, probably most will want this Grade.

That turned out wonderful. It look rather smooth and comfortable to the hand . I see MANY years of service for you Bob .
Gary it even looks like a hardened pivot (SS) bolt compared to the handle/ scale screws . All for under $600 ??? A very good deal for sure !

Thanks
Kurt

Hi Kurt,

The blade rotates on a hardened Tool steel drum. The ends of the drum are inlet into the case on each side. The Draw Bar bolt thru the whole assembly is hardened Tool Steel. And, the draw bolts thru the case front and rear are also hardened Tool Steel.

The mechanism adjust is Tool Steel. Blade is A2 Air Hardened Stainless Tool Steel. Case is Canvas Mircarta. Blade stabilizer side bushings are hard brass (I make them in Barnes Tool and Dies. It really is built to last.) It’s just the way I build things. At least half of it isn’t required. Most of that nobody would ever know.

I often wonder if people do take note and it makes the work desirable ... or if it just keeps people from buying - because it honestly double or triples the work ... and while I never charge what I should (meaning twice or three times as much), I obviously have to charge something more. HOW DO YOU BUY? 1). Based on first visual punch - with a lesser degree of complex build features? 2). Based upon a study of the engineering and features - with a good look tossed in).

Gary

I’d venture 95% of users buy by #1 above. Now if i am given the extra info while looking at items, i will use that info to make my decision.
If i am buying from ‘Barnes’ i already know about the extra Quality built in.
