I’ve finished a great Case. Both Peter and Kurt showed special interest in the pending Oak Leaf and Acorn Cases. Kurt was kind enough to say the #1 Prototype Consideration was not important to him at this point, so he handed the #1 piece to Peter. Thanks Kurt. So this one goes to Peter and it’s identical twin goes to Kurt.



I think this makes a great case in the Series. We have the Liberty Case (identical to this), and now the Oak Leaf and Acorn Edition. As time passes, we will add additional versions. Remember all the tooling: Jigs, Dies, Doming tools, Punches, Dolly Blocks, Procedure Cards, Patterns, and more ... all things required to make even one case. It’s amazing the collection of tools required to make a clean job.



You have to have the whole procedure in your head as you work. That’s why I might mention that nagging headaches slowed me down this week. You can push through pain, but you can’t just can’t efficiently remember the next three steps ahead so you don’t get tangled up by doing a step too soon (such as a polishing operation prior to a step that may produce scratches). You need to be sharp, and pain dulls that Edge. So if you know you are dull, you move back to base steps. (That’s why I end up with a lot of early parts on hand).



Remember I made two really good Case Fronts. Twins for this project.



I know you are hesitant, but I’d really appreciate comments on the project, procedures, choices made. You can wear a rubber nose while you type. Nobody will have a clue who you are!

They look very nice. I don't know how you can polish them to a mirror finish ? I was wondering what the dimensions are of the case ?

Extremes of the Box Section: 1 7/8” by 2 3/8”. Including the integral hinges and the integral Snap Clasp: 1 7/8” by 2 1/16”. About 1/2” thick closed. If you just closed a Card Stock inside, it would just enclose 1 11/16” by 2”(that would be where the case lips close). If you cut a photo to fit the lower bevel segment (letting the mirrored bevel frame around the pic.- ), the picture could be max. 1 1/4” by 1 5/8”.

How’s THAT for measurements? Hah. It’s a nice size. Has a good feel to it. Just right. Your brain tells you ... that’s nice and firm without being too heavy.

I’ve really worked out the tooling. I hope they appeal.

And the Twin (aka no. 2), is completed and now winging its way to its forever home. It’s not at all like these owners couldn’t do without their handmade Barnes Cases ... but their families will have two extremely nice items to enjoy as decades pass. Thank you both, for allowing me to support my current needs. Thank you for appreciating the skill sets I’ve had while here. It’s been enjoyable.
