You know, it would be nice to see a Hoss in .32, on a bit more compact a "frame"...by Roose Hurro - Gary's Galleries

Peter-n, thank you.... Had a good deal of fun with my 2200, as well. Unfortunately, the seals have gone, and it needs repair, but I still have it (somewhere around here). Someday, I'll be able to get it repaired, I hope. Though I missed (and annoyed) more jacks than I ever hit, due to the limits of power and range (decided the .22 LR worked best for the bunnies). Still a fun gun, though.by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Yes, I enjoy the site and the conversation. I know I can ask a lot of questions and propose concepts that may seem (probably are) a bit "out there", but that is the curse of a creative mind. When I first got into adult airgunning, I always wondered if there was anyone out there who made airguns from scratch, so I could look into having somthing one-of-a-kind made. Unfortunately, I found you waby Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I still have my first air-rifle, a Daisy Model 95... very beat up and worn, and though it still works, I don't shoot it any more. Just there for the memories. My other guns, in no particular order: 1. Crosman Model 2200 2. Crosman Model 600 3. Walther PPKs CO2 4. Beeman P1 Magnum (.177, combat grips, stainless finish, fully tuned by Beeman) 5. Isn't the idea of a Chinese-made Barnes an oxymoron? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Indeed... Plus, a Barnes doesn't require a barn for shelter, when it's not in use. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I keep going back to my love of full-stocked military rifles, where most everything but the action is covered by wood. Gary, have you ever made a rifle like this? Would you make a rifle with wood that covers up nearly all your metalwork...? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I'd be proud to be shot with that gun... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Gary's Galleries
Gary, the way you keep dropping info on all the things in your head yet unmade, I'd like nothing better than to pick your brain, even if only for an hour. It will certainly be interesting to see what new things you come up with in the future. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Gary's Galleries
But... Jerry? The Appaloosa in that pic does snort air out the front, just like any Barnes gun.... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I like the looks of that brass and stainelss combo. "Gold" and "silver" do go together well.... (*plans heist*) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Gary's Galleries
Gary, Practice makes perfect, but, from what you said, it seems the shroud does help, when the shooter does his or her part. And also like you said, at least it doesn't hurt, so it sounds like a shroud would still be a valuable option. Me, I like the bull-barrel look, especially in the brass and stainless combo (not that brass and blue doesn't also look good). Just goes to show how importby Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Yes, far as I know, follow-through is very important for accuracy, and not just in airguns/firearms. But I have one question of my own: Is a moderator's primary purpose to quiet the gun, or does it also "moderate" that burst of air around the pellet? I keep thinking, if you could "strip away" that air, so nothing comes out with the pellet that can disturb its flight, that should make a diffeby Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
That Alpine has quite a crack to it... I take it the recoil isn't all that bad? Didn't look like much from the vid. Beautiful rifle... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Gary's Galleries
"This might be valid if you're talking about a militarily useful man portable gun on the battlefield..." Yes, this is what I was talking about... -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Sorry, "bouncing" is a relative term. And am I right that it wasn't till the advent of rifling that the use of snipers came about? A single rifleman, using precision, aimed fire? I always thought volley fire came about not just for tactical reasons, but due to the poor relative accuracy of those early smoothbores, compared to the first true rifles. Been a while since I dived into the subject,by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, ever thought of using that Phenolic for cosmetic stock-inserts? Yes, smoothbores can be accurate, if the slug/ball is the right size. Problem with those old muskets? For quick loading in the heat of battle, the ball was undersized a bit, so it would drop down the bore unaided, and could be seated quickly and easily with the ramrod. So, that ball ended up "bouncing" down the barrel,by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Nice... Should look even better when the stock's done. Certainly performs excellent... and definitely one of the guns I'd someday like to be on the Ledger for. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, thanks for the long-winded explaination, even if it wasn't all towards me... And no, sorry to say I didn't notice... Cajun J., muskets couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 50 yards because they're MUSKETS (smoothbores), not RIFLES. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
2005? Has it been that long since those guns have been out, or is that a typo? I thought both the Victory and Chaparral were fairly recent designs, and then taking into account the build time...? -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------by Roose Hurro - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
