Final finishing is underway. What do ya think? Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
In Solid Steel Yet!!! Ooooppsss .... would you believe that’s a really big thumb??? No? Huhh. Ok, I’m busted. I had to cold forge out the latch tongue. I trimmed it just a bit short when first tuning. The Anvil worked great. Rang like a true Tool Steel Anvil! Hah. The Latch works very smooth, with a Crisp “Snick!!” Looking nice. Ok All, Both the Prototype and S#1 are sold. Thank you Both! More Later. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hello Scott, I would not set up a scrap among friends. And I’ve made all the tooling and notes in order to make them a regular item. The Liberty Case you have been watching will be $450 and I will pay the postage. This Prototype is SOLD. Kurt dropped his marker on it weeks ago. I have others in the works already. And, I have a version with Oak Leaves and Acorns Struck into the metalby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Ah Rick, Music to my ears. That’s what I hoped to hear, but hearing it is far better! Perfect. Thank you for taking the time to write. I appreciate it. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Now I sand and shape perimeter. I shape ears and tongue on release. I polish the inside and the hinge barrel. Remove Nickel Oxide. Sign and number. Et al The Prototype Liberty Case is Approaching! Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
See what I did there ...? We are down to the nitty gritty of Case building. This is where you get an heirloom quality Case that holds up to decades of daily service. A “Nine Knuckle Barrel” will keep the sides in alignment thru tens of thousands of cycles, and the next step ... the “Snap Clasp”, will be up to the job of seeing that each cycle securely closes with a pleasantby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I had to make a Round Nosed Mill Cutter of .140” diameter in order to make tooling. Then use that tool I just made, to Mill a precise steel groove that I needed ... to make another tool. It all takes a while, but it “stays done”. Ha. I’ll be able to use these tools for the duration. And someone else can get decade’s from them too.by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I know it’s hard for you to anticipate how quickly a project might be complete. Let’s use this LIBERTY CASE for an example. The number of weeks we’ve been talking about it is not an accurate indication of how long one case will take. Yes, there has been a lot of tooling to make. That still doesn’t accurately project a build time. I’ve had several things to take care of during this timeby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Kurt, Hi Peter, Hello Scott, Thank you so much for your comments. I’m glad you like the Liberty Case. I’m real pleased too. The manufacture of precise tooling and jigs has taken time. That’s done, to my foresight at this point. You can only move the metal when it’s precisely and firmly held in exact alignment. The shape you want is waiting for the metal to be driven into the vby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Scott, Thank You very much. It’s 1 15/16” by 2 1/2” It’s .475” thick when closed. My pill Case is .490” thick when closed. I’ve carried it in my hip pocket for 35 plus years. Ya never know it’s there. And it’s never opened on me in my pocket. If you readers have need for any different size, let me know. If there were a consensus, I’d make the tooling for thatby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I refined the hinges. I stretched the tongue of the clasp. I’ve confirmed techniques and made a few specialized tools. Tomorrow I can marry the sides and match their perimeter. I haven’t done this for some time. It’s nice to work with these precision tools. Thanks Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Coming along readers! Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thanks Kurt, I enjoy making the tooling necessary to precisely bend and mold the sheet into 3 dimensional components. There is a whole wheelbarrow full of jigs, Dies, frame clamps, and assorted specialized tools; required to accurately make the entire case, hinges, and catch - all from one piece of flat stock. The project stacks up - meaning you don’t want to ruin step 15 cause it will meanby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Here ya go Rick. All ready for a Tomato Sandwich. Sorry for the delay. I wanted you to have something safe for your “Pick-a-nick” Basket! Enjoy. Kelly will get it in the mail now. I’ve been trying to just ignore the “ouch-essses”. Nobody wants to hear all that. Quiet or not, it still slows ya down. Ask Peter (who dropped by from Canada). I believe these “Liberty Cases” will be something special. I’m pleased that the die carving turned out well. Just to remind you, the die which produces the impression on this Nickel Silver (German Silver), must be the negative of the desired print. Thus, up Is down, right is left, prominate, is recessed. And it’s all carved into Tool Steel which must be properly heat treated. Anotby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I’ll lace the stories together over the next couple of days. We were honored to have Peter visit, from Canada; for several days. We had a fine visit. We did some Range Shooting, and enjoyed the shop as well. I wish you all the best. I’ll be back ASAP Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Thanks Rick, I appreciate your input. I decided to make that storage sheath from Kydex. Smaller and the Knifevwill SNAP into place. Time delay included: finding Kydex. Getting out small oven and stuff used. Then;(since I have difficulty finding a spot to sit a coffee cup, it was time to make room for the small oven and molding press.). Which reminds me, where did I put the molding Press??? Ahby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Kurt, I’m glad you like it. Thank you for your marker. The oxide that covers the piece is the result of annealing. It will be removed and the plate polished. I’ve made a Die set to raise the sides in a smooth incline. I’ll show ya.by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I have in mind pocket cases. Recall the previous Expedition Cases. Same Function. This is THE FIRST STRIKE. Done in Nickel Silver. It will mainly be used for rectangular cases where the hinges, snap catch, and clam shell sides are raised from Nickel Silver Sheet. Nickel is much harder than Brass. And is Silver White in Color. Here you see the covering of oxide produced during production.by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Please check back tomorrow, or at the worst case Wednesday. I’ve been working had. Have had a boot full of pain but some new meds are coming. I have several things I want to show you, but the cracking and clicking sounds in my neck have reached the level of “...an official PAIN IN THE NECK!” Bone Spurs, Scar tissue, and Arthritis aren’t the fun they used to be! I’ll be back. Wiby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Actually Scott, That comment is very helpful. It tells me that the variety of my ideas may not be the stumbling block that I sometimes fear. I’m “An idea a day Artist.” Whereas some Craftsmen can make a career from a couple of ideas (copied over and over), I had endless fresh ideas. I’m not trying to dis’ the other guy.
