Hi again Pedro, I ran your slug weight/length through the twist calculator at 1000 fps and come up with 11''-12'' pitch. One of the rim fire barrels I have used was about 12'' pitch , I think it may have been an Anshaults. I cast 27gn hollow pointers for it which grouped real nice out to 50 yrds and 1050 fps but I cant say I tried it out any further than that. All of the rim fire barrels I've useby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Pedro, your design looks great. Garry is right about the twist rate of the barrel. You could either use a .22 rim fire barrel which generally have a 16'' pitch or there abouts, they are usually available quite cheaply. Or use shorter slugs in your airgun barrel. Generally speeking the rim fire barrel is slightly larger in both bore and in the groves than an airgun .22 barrel so you will need tby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
OK I'll pitch in here with what little I have seen of Barnes airguns from down under. I always loved the look of the chaparel pistol with it's machined aluminium billet frame and from what I recall a nice power curve. The apalusa rifle gets my vote with nice clean lines and again a workable power curve. Hi Garry, I hope all is well with you and your family. The reservior is 6061 T6 and the end cap is 6261 T6. They are both very close in yeld strength and hardness and could be applied around the other way quite happily, the 6261 has a slightly higher ti percentage. The slugs are hollow point which calculate out perfect for the 24'' pitch but have a reasonable sized effective meplat so are not idby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Garry,Lon and all. Neil must be tied up, I'm sure he won't mind me jumping in here and filling in the gaps. Garry, the green is simply standard anodiseing. I asked the anodisers to keep the parts in the dye for as long as possible to achieve as deeper color as they could get. The reservior and end cap I polished and the reciever and adjuster are burnished using a 3M pot scrub(seems to work).by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi rotorhead, yes almost every larger introduced animal are hunted recreationaly from helicopters here in NZ. Where I live in Central Otago red deer can become problematic for the farmers if the numbers get too high. I know of several instance's recently where as many as 150 red deer have been culled in one day off one farm using helicopters and buckshot and other instance's of 50-100 deer beingby Danny - The Hunting Camp

Hi Scott, nice kill and a good healthy load of meat for the freezer. There are quite a few of us who take part in this forum who shoot with other than Garry's fine airguns. What I and no doubt a few others would like to know is rifle type, slug weight/design and shot placement. Also a photo of your gun, it's alway's nice to see some airgun candy. Hi Garry, I noticed you have the growth rings on the drawer fronts concave out. I ask this because this is how I alway's present the grain with drawers, on table tops and such I present the growth rings concave up. As timber dry's out(even timber that we think is dry will move a little once cut/opened up) the growth rings want to streighten out, however the upper face of a top or outward facing sby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Kent. Hunters visiting from over sea's do bring there own firearms at times. There are import restrictions on some air rifles which may effect someone bringing them into NZ even if only visiting and then taking them back out of the country. Also precharged air rifles are classed as firearms down here so one needs a NZ firearms licence to be in possession of and use them. Visitors from oversea'by Danny - The Hunting Camp
Happy birthday Garry, I hope you had a nice one, Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Kent, Thanks for your contibution. I've had some trouble getting this poticular barrel to group. I generaly like to shoot a 100 yrd three shot group off a single fill of no greater than 1.5". The slug design which I've posted is the only one of many slug designs that have come close. Even then the best I generaly do is about 2" at 155 grain. The same slug without the hallow point at 175 grainby Danny - The Hunting Camp
Hi guy's, The rifling is only about .0015'' deep per each, It's about all I can manage with my limited equipment but seems to do the trick. The pitch is aprox 30'' which is idealy a little short/fast which is why I made hallow point moulds to help bring the GS down and reduce the gyroscopic drift. Garry, I hope you and yours are well and your move is going more or less to plan. Unlike other countrie's we are quite lucky that deer and any other introdused mamal's are seen as an introduced pests. As such we are allowed to hunt them anytime anywhere as long as one has permission to shoot on that land. Hi all, I had a fantastic time last weekend. My partner had to head up to Fairlie to attend a couple of day's nursing training and a friend of mine was having a surprise 50th birthday party up in Christchurch. I had previously been in contact with Neil as I had a .60 cal which I was finished with. I use a hand pump to keep the air up to my guns and the .60 requires about 38 pumps per shot.by Danny - The Hunting Camp
Very nice Ced, good to see your out there doing some air gunning.by Danny - Video Library
Hi Neil, That is a tight 5 shot group for 100 yards you must have a very steady hand. A gun dealer down this way has a .25 lonestar in wood that I have been eyeing up, what fpe do they produce ? Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Pedro, that looks realy great, I love the solid action and air tank on the rear. I too am an amateur airgun builder down under here in New Zealand. Ive managed to refine my airguns quite well especialy the valve hammer side of things and am happy to share what I've learnt. If you'd like to get in touch I can be emailed at wbblaze@slingshot.co.nz . Hi to all, Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Mr Clark, I'm in NZ as well. What you say makes sence. With my smaller airguns which I run at 3800psi I use a hand pump to keep the air up because there is no 4500psi service here. I've noted that the first shot off the top takes less pumps to get back up to preasure than further shots. ie the further down the shot count the more pumps per shot it takes to get back up to preasure which makes sby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Good point about the recoil Gary. I've noticed with the larger of my airguns even though the shots are balanced out to have little spread the final shot has more fealt recoil, ie it tends to push back more as apposed to being sharp. The first shot of course is opperating at a higher preasure but the valve duration is shorter and lift is less, whereas the final shot is opperating at a lower preasuby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Jerry, those are some nice looking slugs. I will be interested to see how they group and perform on game if you are intending to take them hunting. Just out of interest, what size do they drop from the mould at and how much are you sizing off them ? Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Your new gun looks nice Joe, looking forward to seeing it in action. Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Very nice Allan, your gun looks like abalanced and practical piece and with the performance figures you've posted should do the job on medium to large game quite nicely.Danny.by Danny - The Picture Gallery
Garry, thats fantasic numbers from a rear hammer. And whats more those are nice clean holes for a smoothie, looking promising. Great work. I have a .50 smoothie that I built for close range duck hunting a while back. It;s not a power house, only about 350 FPE. Recently I made a slug mould for it, had the first shoot with the slug only a week or so ago. The ones that fly straight fly nice and trueby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Hi Peter, thanks for posting. Sounds like a very versatile and powerfull gun. Tell me, with the Bontrager being a standard shotgun size can you make up shot loads using a 20 Gg plastic wod ? It would seem if it were posible to fill the wod with the desired load of shot and cap it off with say a disk of card held in place with a we bit of wax it would be a lot simpler than making the whole thing fby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thats realy nice groups Garry especialy from a pistol ( a nice looking pistol). I know how hard it can be to get such a short barreled gun to ballance and group off a single fill. Way to go. Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Julio, the amount of energy obtainable from diferent slug weights depends greatly on how the airgun is configured. I build my own airguns for my own use just as a hobbie. What I prefer to do is build and tune my guns to perform at there best with a given slug weight. I achieve this with light to medium weight slugs as I find they shoot flatter and stop more readly in the animal as opposed to aby Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
What a lovely and clasic pistol Garry,That string of shots is remarkably flat and with a total of over 400 fpe from what appears to be about 4 od cubic inch's of air. Thanks for sharing. Danny.by Danny - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
