Not a catchy name. But these are some of the critical elements I've been fitting and preparing (forever) for bluing. These are barrels and a few reservoirs to match up for items completed and waiting. I could mention the dozen names involved here. But - they wouldn't be reading, and another dozen readers would be disappointed. There's a couple of "re-blues" in there. Stuff thaby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Hi Kent, Don't know where you got that idea. The range has been two hundred yards of slick mud. There were Monsoon rains forever. Then two feet of snow. Then three more feet of snow on top. Then, with the thaw, weeks of swamp with a river down the middle. We don't mind setting up on some solid snow. But when you need a raft, and can't walk the field, it's pointless. I like your systeby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Joe, Yeah ... I've seen that attitude before. It does wear you out. Another version of it is the legends that say you "can't do" what I will have just demonstrated. If you don't toe the party line ... doesn't matter. That's weary. We had a good time. I was trying to sort out some ammo. About the time I was ready to shoot, I was about out of the slugs I liked. haha. That happeby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
The weather finally moderated around here. Thank God! It seemed forever since I was able to go out for a good shoot. I went and froze my feet a couple of weeks ago, for a couple hours. Yesterday, the weather was great. And, the mud was avoidable, with some care. Jim was in Arkansas on business. Jerry came up for some range time. We didn't shoot anything all day, inside 50 yds. Hi Rotor, Yeah ... but everybody I've ever seen shoot one of those clip or magazine guns, does so, "Bap, bap, bap,ba,bbbbbbbap!!!" In less time than I take to shoot one round. Therefore; I've not witnessed any less effort or time in loading. They then take minutes of fiddling to reload a magazine, while I continue to shoot. Just input from an old coot. Hi Jerry, So; by "engine" - you mean "engine/transmission unit" ... i.e. ... "drive shaft"? Because the engine at 6,000 rpms will certainly turn over more times than at 2,000 rpms. That's the old rope and pulley thingie. That's the screwy terminology that makes this a headache. Hi Kent, Sure, any distorted slug won't spin true. And, any of the other things you mention will distorby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Joe, And that's because they were torn apart when their weaknesses were revealed by G forces. So; I don't see how the argument got started, that more speed will "stabilize" a long slug that's not stable at a slower speed. Very hard to come up with a real anology. Pick a child's top. Slow spin, and it wobbles. Faster spin, and it trues up. HOWEVER; that's not a parallel example ...by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Kent, The biggest issue we're having in the discussion, is defining terms. Or - assigning terms to various actions. Then, getting everyone to universially apply the same meanings to the same terms. You are equating Spin rate and RPMs. In any discussion of this subject I've ever read or been part of, 100% of the people have claimed that increased RPMS met a greater NUMBER of revolutionby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Kent, No no no no no. It's Revolutions Per Distance that causes a total number recorded as RPMs. The number at the end (RPMs) only records how many times the thing went around in one minute. You stretched out the distance, until the one minute had elapsed. You never rotated the bullet any faster at all. Keep the distance the same, make it turn more times, and THEN you will have incrby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

OK - to continue: We've determined that our bullet, from a 1 in 16" twist barrel, and traveling at 900 feet per second, will spin 225 times before it reaches the target 100 yards away, If we translate that into the actual revolutions the bullet would make if it flew for a full minute, it would revolve 40,500 times. Thus, we have the RPM figure articles like to quote. Now, for the sake ofby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
How's THAT for a title? Kent picked up a thread within another topic. Something that I hear a lot ... and I feel is nearly universally misunderstood. Here goes: Almost everyone thinks that if you can shoot a slug faster, that will spin it faster, and thus you can stabilize a slug - especially a longer slug per caliber. False. Kent, Humorous follow-up ... This am, when I was being taken into the O.R. for the epidural injections ... I was talking to the nurse. Hi Kent, This is such an interesting issue, and so universally misunderstood ... I'm going to start a new thread. Thanks for picking it up. I wondered if someone would. Oh ... BTW ... got the injections this am. It went well. I'm supposed to take it easy today. Just going to dig a 100 yard ditch, bury a 24" diameter pipe ... make an underground range ... ... Thanks Kent, You know ... it's no secret, I've mentioned it here. That sweetner substitute in the Crystal Lite was killin' me. I've had far less headaches since cutting it out. I've mentioned that I've suffered from absolute killer headaches for many months. If you don't have them, be grateful. They wouldn't accept it on line - because I needed to get an eye exam this time. Could have gone to the eye doc, and spent a fortune on an exam and glasses, or cooled my heals at the MVA. Just my gift of picking the wrong time, wrong day. I avoid it like the plague. But I expect they were going to come get me in the black helos soon, if I didn't renew. ;?) You're a prince of a guy Joebill! I appreciate it too. Internet Explorer has worked for me for the last 13 years. Worked on the forum for the first 18 months. Thanks. Since we're not overwhelmed with new threads, I thought I'd just drop a note in to stir the pot. Spent the day in waiting rooms. No - not medical this time! haha. The Tire shop, and the MVA. Lovely day. haha. Bought tires for Kelly's van a few weeks ago, and asked them to check the brakes. Yep - they're good. I was surprised too. Hi Neil, I'll make a bet. Now, IF you use that exact slug ... those rifling marks indicate that you will have just as much control at .308 as you do at .3095". The question of velocity isn't as easy. Since the slug is heavy per caliber, it's already providing a natural resistance to building breech pressure. The rest of the resistance to initially moving down the bore, is being providedby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
