Heheh, no, I'm here . . . just been heads-down. I think the critters eat the shed stuff for the calcium actually. I'll try to get back there over the next few days if it quits snowing . . . -- Jimby admin - The Hunting Camp
The ones around here (red fox) don't stay too long in one place . . . I always see them roaming around looking for something to eat. Every once in awhile, you'll see one at the base of a tree sleeping, but they don't stay there for long. I'd get it mounted trotting along . . . that's how I always see them. -- Jimby admin - The Hunting Camp
Hey guys: 'Tis the season . . . any tips on looking for shed antlers? I'll bet I could find a lot of them around here. -- Jimby admin - The Hunting Camp
Welcome back. Glad you had a great trip. Cindy and I love New Orleans, though we haven't been there since before Katrina. We got engaged on the porch of the Cornstalk Hotel. Plus, The Big Easy has the best food in the universe. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
You killed Mr Bubbles! I have that piece of Plexi here. We've gotta try out some close-up slow-mo videos. -- Jimby admin - Video Library
I used one of the online calcs. I'll have to find it again and post a link. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Looks great Neil. I like the hammer cocking mechanism. -- Jimby admin - The Gear Shack
Great find Jerry. I've been looking for one for the Delta 45 as well. Though, my "padded gig bag with wool sock stuffed over the barrel" method of transport is not without its charms! -- Jimby admin - The Gear Shack
Are you trying to one-up me with the data collection Jerry? Excellent, excellent stuff. It'll be very interesting to see how the BCs of the .32, .45, and .46 Bishops compare. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Some of Gary's heavier rifles do indeed have a lever to assist in cocking the gun. E.g., my Delta and a number of Bisons. I can tell you that it makes for a very pleasant shooting experience! -- Jimby admin - Gary's Galleries
Roose: The Hoss is essentially a muzzle loader with a tap load breech for roundball. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Jerry: did you factor in ambient temp and altitude? I found that when I did this, my numbers were different by .02 or so. I still have some data for the .45 Bishops I need to crunch. I'm thinking that will become the "default" slug for the Delta due to its accuracy. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hey -- we're all spreading our peanut butter a little thinner these days. I wish my business were immune to the current economic climate, but unfortunately that's not the case. Oh yeah -- those "physics" take up physical space (and weight!) too. I've lugged my Nikon all over Neil's country, and to the game last weekend, and even up Mt. Rainier, but there's something to be said for point-n-by admin - Gary's Galleries
A couple things: For those of you looking around for cameras (cheap point-n-shoot thru expensive), note that Circuit City just last Friday announced they're going out of business and are shutting down all of their 500+ stores. We stopped by yesterday and right now their cameras are all 10% off -- you can still do a lot better online if you know what you want. Wait a few more weeks and it'llby admin - Gary's Galleries
Shhhhhhh Jerry . . . we don't wanna give Gary a "cheap scope" complex! Heheheh! I've read good things about the big Nikko sidewheelers. I have a Leupold 6-24x with a mil-dot waiting in Gary's shop to be mounted on the Alpine. It was pricey, but I love the little Leupold 3-9x I have on the Scout and this is basically a target version of that with even better glass. And even Gary likes theby admin - Gary's Galleries
Gary et al: Marine Gunny Sgt. Carlos Hathcock logged the 20th Century's longest combat kill with a 2,286 meter kill (1.42 miles) with a Browning M2 .50 BMG during the Vietnam War. His record has since been broken in Afghanistan by a Canadian sniper team in 2002, but their kill took two shots (2,430 meters -- the first shot blew the water bottle out of a Taliban fighter's hand, and the secondby admin - The Target Trophy Lodge
Heheh . . . I had to laugh when my aunt pulled out a little pair of Simmons binoculars to take to the Steelers game last weekend. I know . . . I'm an optics snob. I think more and more it's because I CAN tell the difference between the pictures a $200 camera takes and a $2000 camera takes. The difference is more subtle between a $200 scope and a $2000 scope, but it's still there. And noby admin - Gary's Galleries
This reminds me very much of my Scout 45 . . . I'd guess it's about the same power class too. It also has the "lamb's tongue" and cocks forward (instead of back) like the Scout. Hammer tube is forward and reservoir / intake are aft . . . again, like the Scout. Oh yeah . . . brass slide breech and "floating receiver" too. Nice work. -- Jimby admin - Gary's Galleries
My Scout 45 is actually an excellent candidate for such a 32 conversion, and it already has the slide breech on its 45 barrel (mine is brass). The Scout's barrel threads out so you could just swap in a 32 barrel / slide breech. It's less powerful than these .45s (about 150 fpe with roundball / 180 fpe with slugs), but it's shorter and lighter than the "new" 45 Rendezvous class (and easiby admin - Gary's Galleries
Wow . . . that's pretty awesome. What great place to shoot (and live). Gary, where's our cruise ship? -- Jimby admin - The Hunting Camp
Was watching that shotgun video again . . . we need a close-up impact of one of the bigger slugs against a steel plate next time. Gotta figure out some way to protect the camera -- maybe a piece of fiberglass? We can use my little table-top tripod to set it up at plate-level, perhaps ten yards away? Then someone has to push the button and get to safety. Sounds like another project . . .by admin - Video Library
Hi Tom: I'm using an old Nikon D70 shooting in RAW mode. Not bad for a five year old camera. But digital SLR is the way to go, if you can deal with the extra weight. Nothing like having a real (mechanical) shutter, real lenses, and a monster image sensor! Shooting in RAW mode lets you tweak the exposure and white balance etc. in Photoshop later on. You can pick up a used D70 body on eBaby admin - Gary's Galleries
I took a few pics, though not as many as the other day. The War Wagon got some snazzy new seats! Unfortunately, like most of our shooting upgrades, they're still a work in progress. The cutouts in the bench need to be adjusted, and the leg stems are a bit too wobbley sometimes. Still, it's better than sitting on a rickety stool with a piece of foam padding as a booster! It was a biby admin - Video Library
Gary and I got in a good range session yesterday. Not a lot of data collection, but a lot of knocking around steel targets, and a few groups at 50 yards. It was more of a "fun shoot" kind of day. Gary brought along a rifle I'd last seen in September as an unfinished 58 "shop gun." Close to completion, it's now the 58 Rendezvous, a compact yet powerful hunting rifle. It's a lot lighterby admin - Gary's Galleries
Jerry -- don't forget about the order I sent you before Christmas. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Excellent . . . looks like a lot of fun guys. Did you get any groups? That is indeed a big range . . . but remember Gary that FL is a lot more gun-friendly than MD. Lon, I read about your troubles with the range officer too (long story short -- apparently they wouldn't allow a tethered HPA tank at the firing line). Would it perhaps help if you guys went there "off-hours" and gave the rangby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Joe: How loud is it? How tough was it to install the kit? What caliber? I've been looking to add a new backyard-friendly springer to my collection here. I've been looking at picking up a used R9 that's already been tuned but this sounds like another great option. -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Sweet! I sent an order up to Canada for a customer in October and it took about 2-1/2 weeks to clear customs (not including the actual transit time). Not sure if the fact that it's a knife will make a difference -- just make sure you fill out all of the required forms or it WILL take a lot longer! Merry Christmas guys! -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hmmmm . . . that's an eBay watermark on LR corner of the pic, I think . . . -- Jimby admin - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
