OK ... the link says .360" on the buckshot ball. I wonder if they are like Hornady buckshot ... and harder lead. That would help them grab the rifling and not strip. Still can't see a slug riding as deep in the rifling as a ball ... unless it were the little pellet head and skirt rings. I would suspect the ball and pellet weigh about the same. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
So ... Cedric ... Before someone else buys 4 tins of pellets based upon my recommendation .... ... fill me in. What size are the ball you are recommending? I see the .360" measurement a couple of times. Are you saying the guns shoots slugs and ball at the same size? Since ball are only engraved at the waist, and a very narrow belt at that, I've never seem ball shoot well at the same sizeby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
There's a few of them in there. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

OK ... Thanks Alex. It's been 10-12 years since I saw one. I recall now that they are bolt action. So - that changes the equation. Probably making the whole idea of lining the barrel a poor one. You'd need an entire insert system - which is like making a new top end. Best thing then would be to shoot a "spool shaped" slug - some high tail drag design that stabalizes by it's shape - raby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Hi Chris, It's technical. It takes very specific tooling. It uses trememdous pressure - so it would not be something to apply to a finished gun. However: Research "Barrel Liners". These are intended to renew worn out barrels. Usually, the old rifling is drilled out, and these new rifled liners are glued or soldered inside the old barrel. They are thin wall steel, with rifling cut insby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hello Chris! First ... Welcome to the Rendezvous. I'm very pleased to welcome you. I hope you will find it a comfortable place to enjoy your sport. Thank you, sincerely, for your service. You guys ever check the twist rates of your barrels? Do you know how? Put a pc. of tape around the muzzle. You'll use this in a minute. Now ... get a dowel a bit smaller than your bore. Draw a straight line the length of the dowel. You can do this by laying it flat, and using the side of a pencil lead to stroke down the top. It will remain pretty straight. Of course, you can secure theby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Ced, Yeah - I had the thing in my CD slot for a month. I used it some. Oooops, I mean .... ah .... Got it laying right here for reference. I'll get back to it again. Hey ... what's the twist on those big bore barrels of yours? You ever check them? Garyby barnespneumatic - The Hunting Camp
Thanks Joebill! You're right. Thanks for the note. You know, being the "sensitive artist type", I have to have most of my ducks in a row before the juices flow effeciently. The smallest amount of the "buddy system" keeps me going. Probably sounds odd to some, who'd read it as needing endless praise. It's more like a comedian without a laugh from the audience. Footnote: Not my intention to sound harsh. I might have anyway. Sorry. My history has been a lifetime of hearing that theory, until it grates my last nerve. That was it. I sent you a bill. hahahah. Maybe Monday. Will most likely be another one of those that take two weeks to get the 2 hours to you. ;?) Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thanks for the note Hornblower. Yeah ... I've heard that theory for years. And, it does take pretty much 98% of the enjoyment out of doing this work. The observation that excellence becomes expected and boring; is a symptom of a society which cannot appreciate what it has available, or the effort and sacrifice that provides it. This is child's play. You want a REAL challange, we just spent two hours trying to make the Wii console recognize our home wireless network. It INSISTS that our password is NOT. Read the article and the comments. Sounds as if the readers were as varied as we were when we discussed this before. haha. Guess it could be interesting to publish a collection of the RPMs (based upon their formula ..... MV times 720 divided by twist rate) .... to get an idea of what our bullets seem to like. I'd think an average seemed to be about 800 fps ... and a 1-16" twist rate. 3by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Hello Hugh, It's a Boy! Some of the "boy parts" aren't installed yet ... I'm glad you are pleased. I made a friction free hammer for you yesterday. I have to make up the trigger block and levers ... then the hammer tube cap and ball bearing spring guide. At that point, I could install the bolt and fire it. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hello Neil, Certainly ... pull up a toad stool ... As you know, the rifling "bites into" the slug to steer it. On very long slugs, this causes more friction than is needed. Therefore; some slugs are made to be "land diameter" in front, and "groove diameter" at the back. Some only have a few "drive rings" which are at "groove diameter". There are various stages of this. Some might jusby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

I'm sure the cons are my fault still, at this point. I'd like to be able to zoom and find the subject easier. There's most likely some sort of subject lock that I haven't researched. I get fumbly when trying to zap something far off. It's a great little unit for the price. I need to use it more. Garyby barnespneumatic - The Hunting Camp
I'll check the cherries. The Pepper grinders were used, orig., for long range early muzzle loaders. I'd be suprised if they were too large to size for .457" We'll chat at some point. Garyby barnespneumatic - The Hunting Camp
Hi Jim, Well, good luck with your effort. I'm sure you'll succeed in developing a reputation for producing amazing quality. Hi Jim, I had mentioned a partial list of other guns that are in a similar state of completion.
