Hi Lon, "IF" you make a perfect Damascus blade, grind and mirror polish it ... you see nothing but a mirror surface. Only a minor flaw would show (or a ghost image of the various steels if you know how to look at it). The layers are all perfectly fused. When you expose it to acid ... the acid will eat at the various alloy steels at mildly different rates. THAT is what shows the pattern ofby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
It's always a bit of a danger to show parts of show pcs. prior to assembly. Sort of like just staring at one square inch of an old Master painting .... "Hummm ... sort of dark ... isn't it?" But ... there are so very many different disciplines that must be mastered if you are to put together a work just like it was visualized in your head. You recall that the Timber Wolf has many, many braby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Joebill found that the Annual Knives 2011 featured one of my Theme Daggers from 27 years ago! He sent in this clipped pic. The Dagger was my Serial Number 417 ... completed 6/7/1983. There was a host of support stuff with it. I wrote a fantasy tale of the "Garthmond Blade". As you see - the wizard is enchanting the steel and turning it into Damascus Steel!! Joebill, I think that was .... "..... not a stone mason ... brick layer ... something like that." What were those blob creatures tunneling under the deep mines .... "Horta" was it? I think so. Common Joebill ... you're a DOCTOR for the love of Pete. It's a digital pic ... you can handle it. We've got people all over the known world waiting to see what you are talking about! I remember selling him a Master's knife. 960 layer Damascus with integral guard and knuckle bow forged from the same pc. of Damascus. But - that's not a Wizard knife. Thank you Lon, That's very kind of you to say. Guess what I've been doing? One of the thorns in my side. Hunting supplies. By the time I find what I need, I cherish the supplier. And then, next time I need to order ... they are gone. I just did a net search ... yes ... the whole thing. I think I talked to most of the net too. Finally found "Arthur" ... who saved my bacon. Hi Julio, It's very difficult to do a part over. Depends upon the part - as to how close tolerances are. The anodizing can be removed ... but it takes a layer of aluminum with it. Therefore; you can't redo threaded parts or closely fit parts. Generally, if it goes poorly, I consider it ruined. It's a process that you want to pay close attention to. It's not really universally understood.by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Lots of things moving forward thru the shop. Here are a few snap shots .... Penciled in ... Nearly complete now. A few more passes to refine and create the proper contrast. Hi Bill, Glad you've enjoyed some good weather. Been very rainy here and gray for some time. Ready for the sun now. We went from A/C to heat in about 24 hours. I didn't know anything about my work being in Knives 2011. Dragging the bottom of the barrel are they? haha. Send me a digital Pic. I don't know which one it was ... made a couple. This morning, I received a nice e-mail reply. I'm glad they are thinking about it. Gary Greetings Gentlemen. Thanks for taking the time to contact us about our airgun hunting regs. You both raise some very good points and have improved my understanding of these weapons. As noted, we have minimum standards for modern rifles, muzzleloading rifles and both types of handguns when used fby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thanks Joe, I'd sure want to know that before I'd ever try it. It would be a real bummer to have to totally disassemble a rifle to replace all the seals. By the nature of the seals, they are "inside". You can't make them easily accessible. It's a good bit of work to take a gun down and not scratch it up, etc. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Well, that verifies what I said ... "I don't know anything about it". So; do you know if it's screws with the seals? That thread said something vague about it not "normally" hurting your gun. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Busy Weekend. I blued a nice batch of stuff on Friday. Jerry made a quick stop and go to pick up some lead and swap molds Sat. I worked on sanding billet Saturday ... and then we went over to a family group afternoon for a late lunch. I came back to work later. Did some more work on a project that I've picked at here and there for some time now. Coming together as a nice button lockby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Don, Just to clarify ... you can fill to any pressure from a 6,000 psi tank. Doesn't mean you run that pressure. You could, technically,"feather the valve" and top off the gun ... stopping at your pressure. The safer, recommended way, is to run thru a big tank regulator set to the psi you want to fill. BTW ... the big Nitrogen tanks are available commercially, and they are filled to 6by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I'd love for it to be true. I just think it would be extremely easy to prove, instantly. So; I'll be glad to see the results. The fact that I've been hearing of the possibilities for so many years, makes me wonder why it hasn't become standard practice, if it works so well. There must be a down side, of we'd all know about the results by now. There was a fellow, at the 99 Michigan shoot,by barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Hi Don, Power and recoil are going to go together. Can't have one without the other. Newton's law. Equal and opposite reaction.... I'm sure you've picked up that I'm very skeptical regarding the helium issue. I wouldn't get your hopes all up on anything being that simple. As I said ... ten years of talking about it .... I've not heard proof that that's the ticket to easy power. I'm suby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
OK ... just to keep the terms straight .... he said 50% more POWER. That's the FPE. Not the velocity. That's a big difference, as power is a factor of "velocity squared". So; I'd have to do my projection numbers again. That would give 1,102.5 foot pounds with the current set up. That would need about 940 fps ... I'm still a bit skeptical ... but ... who knows. Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Yes ... I think one of the most obvious screw ups is calling the .358" to be a 38 caliber. Pretty huge "rounding error" there. It's 35 caliber! No, it's 9mm! No, it's 38 caliber!!! hehe Garyby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I'll be amazed to see a 50% velocity rise. But ... there ya go Jerry ... run your Yukon on Helium. What was the velocity that gave it .... 735 foot pounds IIRC? If you raise the velocity by 50% with helium .... the energy should be well over the Maryland requirement of 1,200 foot pounds for airgun hunting of deer. I'm in the house now. I forget the numbers. But ... let's see .... must hby barnespneumatic - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Neil, That's what I'm trying to do Neil ... "stick together" ... but parts keep dropping off. haha. Thanks for watching my back. So; after I sanded the rest of the steel parts this am, I started bluing around 2 pm. Just got done with four tanks. Phewwww. And then, I had the darned metal roofing to put back up out of the way. Hello Allen, Careful your guns don't float away. What do you know about it. I only know what was talked about ten years ago. That it has a smaller molecule ... is a bit harder on seals IIRC. Supposed to move faster. I think I recall people were using it cause they could get the high pressure in tanks. What are your plans? Thanks for posting.
