Nice progress on a number of great projects. I've bought the handbook on carving wood spirits but have yet to begin carving my Opinel knife handle. Maybe I should start with a tree stump and a chainsaw? Glad you are making chips fly! Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Great work Gary! Now I can see the difference between what I do with the boats and your craftsmanship. I have to look for the patterns in the veneer to remind me of a fish or face. You can take a blank material and make a delicate oak leaf, grizzly or caribou appear with pencil and blade! I'm humbled. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Kurt, the tandem boat took two months to make it a boat and three months to add the veneer decorations. We then took it to our first Suwannee Challenge in 2014 without any hatches or deck lines. I then cut big holes in the deck to make hatches and cut another 18 slots for soft pad eyes to run deck lines thru. Sand the epoxy and put on 4 coats of varnish as UV protection. Hi Gary, The kayak is designed at 22 ft but the designer says it can be stretched by 10% without messing up the hydrodynamics. We are going to add about 8-10% to make it about 24 ft long. The Mjolnir boat is 22 ft long and we feel we could make use of the higher theoretical hull speed. As to the success of the current boat, yes we do like to paddle it fast and have won our division in a feby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Thanks Jeff, it is a rather simplistic rendition of Thor and a couple of lightning bolts compared to Gary's artwork. I do think the spalted wood in the bolts jumps off the deck. I like to find the "pictures" in the veneer that demand transformation into a particular form. Here's an example. That's a gorgeous knife Gary! I think the Barnes badges adds a truly unique touch. It will be a great knife for a lucky owner. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Well that does it! Put my name on the coin and I'll get my coins in the mail. Of course my Kraken will be a stylized version of an octopus/monster made of wood veneers. Thanks Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
That's a handsome knife Gary! Beautiful metal and skeeter work too! Those colors work very well together. The final vision should be something. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Y'all, Just went on a Kraken search and indeed kraken is German for Octopus among other ideas of its origin. There seems to be a lot of Scandinavian references, as well as Iceland . Why is this interesting to me? Well I've been building decorated kayaks for a few years and always looking for inspiration for the next motif. For instance, a racing kayak inspired by my paddling partner suggeby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Well give Gary an idea and he runs with it! Here's his first rendition of Jihadi Gaudy. Just a few more square inches to cover and it will be ready for the next Jihadi wanna be, Saudi prince. That oil money should come rolling in now! Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Now you're not hiding the skeeter knife from the CDC are you? They will want to have it certified Zeka free or quarantined. Ok, I had to get that one our of my system before the epidemic made it too tragic and some small minded politically correct reader tries to shame me. Gary, Here's a couple of finished examples that go well together. Now if Mikhail Kalashnikov had seen some of your work before stamping out that rifle in 1947, it might not have been so butt ugly! Thanks for showing the makers work. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Most of the schools are using the "Genesis" compound bows. We have a few loaners in the 4-H shooting sports program as well. My girls tillered their own longbows and fletched the arrows. Here's Emily's tillered but unfinished bow. She's drawing it "target bow " style as she had been shooting compound bow. Here's Amanda at full draw. She's got the correct longbow form, canted bow. Happy Belated Birthday Gary Thought I'd show some of the wood I've been working on. This is the piece that doesn't need three more coats. Time for a test run. For the superhero fans. Here's Wonder Woman's Kayak. It's transparent (like her plane). Kyle paddled it about 75 yards before abandoning ship. Shipping plastic is waterproof only so long. Hope your meds kick in soon! Larry, I like the "Don't tread on me", but Gary might have problems carving a snake! Maybe you could show him some real snakes from Asia and that would cure him. Greg, I'll be back at it soon. Hey did anybody know that orange oil/tung oil will eat thru a plastic "Solo" cup real quick? I thought it was a kinder, gentler solvent. It sure smells good! Illegitimi non carborundum Here's some ideas on who you might market it to. See the bottom of following page. The oil coats are going on slowly as the honey do list is interfereing with my boat building. I did make an accessory for my tractor to knockout the list. That ones going to shoot for sure! I know you won't let that group stand for long. I always thought those splats would make cool jewelry. If you could only coat it to keep the lead from making your head mush from skin contact. That splats as big as I've ever seen . Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, I have bought the girls a number of Barnes jewelery items in the past. Number 4 would be a neat gift for Kyle! If its still available please put his name on it for me. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Gary, Here's some wood I'm working on. Cleaning and sealing with tung oil/orange oil 50/50 mix for the first coat. Five more coats to go, being gentle on the hardware patina. More to follow with hints for those who may not have seen its past use. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum

Thank you Kelly and Gary for putting together the Skeeter Shoot. You are both such great hosts. It was wonderful to have a gathering of kindred spirts sharing their love of all things Barnes! We enjoyed a party that allowed us to see into the hollow tree and watch the elves at work. Thanks to all who made the extra effort to make such a special event in the real world happen. Great shot Jim! I think everyones on board for the Calendar idea. How many months can you put together? Maybe this could start a collection of even more than a dozen customer glam photos. Hats off the the photographer! Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, Looks like another winner! That's the "slow is smooth, smooth is fast", in action. Great to see it and hear it slap the target. Thanks Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Beautiful knife Gary! It shows both your craftmanship and esthetic in completing the rescue. It always takes more skill to get a project back on track, even more to see a completely new masterpiece in some twisted wood and metal. Kentby Cajun Justice - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
