Gary, That is some neat engraving and will look sharp through the cocking window. I had to reread your post as at first I thought you did the engraving with an air grinder but understand you used an engraver. Very nice! Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, Looks like you are making really good progress. The bluing looks great. Be a nice contrast with the polished aluminum. I bet you have the wood all picked out for this project already? Thanks for sharing the progress! Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Must have a nice collection of "cherries" stored away somewhere Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Very Cool! Nice lathe work. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hey Gary, Nice to see you making progress with the 50 Outrider. That is a lot of green. Awesome groups for 30 yards, smooth bore! Poor rabbit would never know what hit em'. Its lots of work from Design till the slug hits the target. So many steps, procedures, potential mistakes, rework... this is where your experience shines my friend! As you know my life is "blah" right now. My wife haby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
That's some clean threads. Nice recess for the o-ring. Looking forward to seeing another gun completed. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hey Gary, Sounds like you are super busy, again. 15 pounds of ideas and 5 pounds of time seems to go around. I guess the aluminum will get hard from the heating cycle of casting? Molds would need a lot of care not to damage edges. Cool that you found another cutter. Hope it all works out well. One thing I have thought over the years, a steel mold that is sinker EDM. Super accurate and deby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hi Gary, Barrel looks great. Its amazing how much work it is to make a barrel. I showed a friend the pictures from the site this afternoon, he couldn't believe that a button could rifle the barrel. Then I showed him what a button rifling tool looks like and he understood how it worked. Looking forward to seeing the rifle come together. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
This really reminds me of horsepower and torque. Everyone wants horsepower but really the torque is what produces the power, or speed for that matter. If you ever watch some the hyper/super car documentaries, its interesting to note that just cause a car has 800 hp, the car that has 400 hp has a faster top speed. Maybe not every case, but I have caught it a few times. Thanks for sharing Gary.by pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Hey Gary, Looks look a long list of things that need to happen to build this rifle. Hopefully things go well as you need to "keep the lights on" Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, Must have felt really good shooting after such a long time. I haven't made it out to do any shooting for 2 years. I better make time this summer Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Incredible groups for a smooth bore. Scope having been mounted and not touched for years. Really shows the quality of the rifle build. At least that is my conclusion having read a lot about rifles over the last few years. Early muskets were smooth bore and wasn't till rifling was invented that accuracy increased. I love the rifle design and loading port. Slick design Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, Seeing that pulled barrel brings back a few memories. It has been years since I did anything related to making my own barrel and have never been able to allocate the time to perfect it to the point you have. Trust me, it has been on my mind for years... Dwelling on how to get back into it, Alas my current circumstances still do not allow the time or financial resources to proceed. Loby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, Looks like you will have some results soon! Is that the same mold you provided with the rifle or a mold you made recently? Will be interesting to see the results. Love to get back to my 308 build but that will be delayed awhile. Hope your days are going well. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Happy New Year! To each and everyone here! Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I remember following this rifle build. Very nice how everything came together. Must be a lot of fun to shoot? Be interesting to compare the results from when it was built to how it performs now. Looking forward to seeing more of these and other rifles built once again. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
I agree with many. It is great that you will once again be able to focus on airguns. Wish you good health for 2019 so that you can pursue this avenue once again. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Wow that is some knife! To me, the engraving seems to have a Star Wars theme. The straight lines, aluminum etc. Lots of detail there. You spent a good amount of time on that one! Thanks for sharing, Pedro G.by pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Turned out really nice Gary! Thanks for sharing the pics!by pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, That is good news! Be nice to see you build a rifle again. I can understand the decisions you have made regarding who gets first on the ledger. Hopefully everyone can understand your decision as well. Hope that wrist has improved! Regards, Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
That is beautiful how all those piece you scavenged for have come together to form a functional knife! Many hour into that knife I am sure. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
OUCH! Gary, I can totally understand what you went through. In 2011 when we visited Bolivia, South America, i got bit many times. Mostly my own fault as I wouldn't notice in the grass that I was standing on a ant colonies holes. Taking pictures around my in-laws yards my focus wasn't on the ground until my feet burned and felt all the tiny bits. Soaked my feet in water a few times. Gary & Kelly, My deepest condolences to the both of you. Sorry to hear of your loss. God bless and keep you at this time. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Kurt, Those are some interesting pieces. I have never seen an air cane in real, especially from 1800's. Delrin is a good choice for the valve (IMO). Gary is assisting so you are in good hands Show a picture once its completed and firing, would be neat to see. Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Incredible, that is one amazing looking knife! Verne should be very pleased! Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
It is really starting to come along. Will be a great looking knife once completed! Pedroby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, The gravel was used for landscaping and not close enough act a drainage for the house but will keep a watch for water drainage. It’s hard to get the roots as you miss one and the darn thing sprouts again! That is why I am using roundup on the stump and roots. Interestingly enough, I had thought of making a disk like you suggested. The jamb blade works well and is only 4.5” diameteby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Been a busy few weeks. I hauled about 15 plus yards of pea gravel from my place and reworked the lawn edging. Now brought in 10 yards of dirt to fill areas. I had a row of shrubs removed last year but darn things keep growing back. Found a saw blade made for angle grinder and have been cutting and grinding the stumps down. Then use my drill and bore as many holes as I can followed with aby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
Gary, I too wish for longer work days, at least Saturdays. Got lots done yesterday but been so sore and tired today. Would enjoy seeing that forty year old grinder. Love seeing what people have created themselves rather than buying a commercial unit. Somewhere I have a picture of a foot operated shear my grandpa made. He used many pieces of steel welded together, why? Because there wasby pedrog - Airgun Rendezvous Main Forum
